Default Front end click

While riding at Down South this weekend I noticed a click vibration in my bars. The only time I would noticed it was in the whoop section. I was doubling through the section and it seems like in the air I would feel it. I didn't notice it anywhere else on the track and did most of the jumps. I though maybe if I just skimmed through the section it would go away, but as it turns out I can’t skim them. Sunday I put the bike on a stand had my son sit on it with back wheel on the ground and the front end in the air. The only slack I could find anywhere was when I grabbed the very bottom of the fork and jerked back and forth. There seam to be a slight movement between the outer and inner barrel. I sat on the bike with it on the ground and the front brake engaged, I got pretty rough with it and didn’t notice anything. Is the something normal?

Thanks in advance
slabat

Default Maybe

I am not sure which bike you have, but it sounds like the slider bushings have worn. ( I have never heard of them making noise, but that is the only wear part in the forks other than seals and dust covers.) Maybe you can get noise in the forks if you allow the fork oil to get very low and this would also add to the bushing wear and create the excess play that would maybe create the noise.
Do a fork oil change with new seals and dust caps and replace the bushings to cure this ( maybe). Also inspect all other parts while you have them apart.

Are you 100% sure the noise is not coming from the stem bearings?
9 times out of 10 that is where the noise in the front end will be coming from.

Let us know what you find.

PawPaw, it’s a 06 YZ250f; I really don't hear the click I feel it in the bars. Had the seals and oil changed about six months ago. Should have used Shay went to someone local to save time.

What you have is slack between the spring and the upper stops inside the fork
A common thing in kyb forks when they are competly extended some preload washers are the fix for this.

Thanks, Does this need to be done with a oil and seal change?

Dont have to change seals to do it, but oils will be drained in the legs.
Its a good time to change seals ,since you will have the inner cartridge out to remove spring not much more to go to change seals.

If this is the case ... then the springs have got to be sacking out and are no longer yielding the correct ride height or giving the correct rate on small bumps. This come from being strapped down while in transit.
I would suggest it may be time for springs rather than doing the short cut of adding shims, but that is just one old man's opinon.
